Turning the tide on plastics
Every day, we hear more and more about the impact of plastic in our seas with predictions saying that plastic will outweigh fish in the oceans by 2050. Plastic is so widely used in a variety of goods and packaging that it has become near impossible to avoid. And the scary thing is, it doesn’t break down – almost all the plastic ever made is still on our planet … and it’s still piling up and entering the food chain via the oceans.
Here at Rapidata, we recognise that the issue is not going away by itself. But if we all take steps to make a change, no matter how small, we will make a difference and turn the tide for good.
Today, Rapidata has launched its new ‘Turning the Tide’ campaign, aiming to raise awareness of the need to minimise plastic waste and to inspire and support our staff in making whatever changes they can to reduce their plastic footprint.
We’re encouraging all the team to:
- Reduce, reuse and recycle
- Avoid single-use plastics
- Pause before you buy – is there a reusable or recyclable alternative?
- Involve others and spread the word
- Ditch plastic straws, bags and bottles
- Act to reduce litter – go on a beach clean-up
- Take a reusable coffee cup or water bottle with you
- And enjoy being an #Oceanhero
To kick start our campaign today, we’ve delivered a presentation to all staff members, highlighting the scale and impact of plastic-waste and featuring this video below from Sky News. It highlights the reality of the problem worldwide as well as closer to home – did you know, in the UK alone we use 35.8 million single-use plastic bottles every day, can that really be necessary?
At our launch, everyone was encouraged to consider their plastic usage and, to help kick start our efforts, each was given a reusable Rapidata flask for their water or coffee. During the coming year, we will be posting updates on the challenges, progress and positive changes that our teams make.
