Auddis Migration

If you have a Direct Debit Service User Number, known as a SUN, and want to start sending your Direct Debit Instructions to Bacs electronically and offering Paperless Direct Debit (PDD), you will have to migrate to Auddis.

Auddis stands for Automated Direct Debit Instruction Service which allows for Direct Debit Instructions to be set up electronically rather than posting them to the payer’s bank.

There are many benefits to migrating to Auddis:

  • Reduce costs: save money and time as there’s no need to post the instruction to the payer’s bank
  • Accurate: you know straight away if a Direct Debit can be set up rather than waiting till you submit it.
  • Improved operations: reduced errors as all details are checked before submission
  • Speed: allows you to collect Direct Debits faster
  • Customer Care: easier administration and automated setup enables you to give greater customer service
  • Flexibility: you can sign up supporters via telephone and online (Paperless Direct Debit application will be required)

SEPA Direct Debit

The Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) is a European Union (EU) payment initiative designed to make European payments as easy, efficient and cost effective as domestic ones.

SEPA Direct Debit is now implemented in all Eurozone countries, which means all Euro-denominated payments must be collected under the SEPA payment scheme.

What does this mean?

You won’t be affected if you collect in sterling, however if you collect Euro denominated Direct Debit payments, you will need to use SEPA Direct Debit.

SEPA Direct Debit works in a similar way to UK Direct Debit, so once the customer has approved the instruction, the merchant initiates the payment.

There are a few differences however:

  • Currency: SEPA Direct Debit transaction are all in Euros and any currency exchange is negotiated between your and your payer’s banks.
  • Chargebacks: If a SEPA payment is taken in error, the refund must be claimed within 13 months. Under the UK Direct Debit Guarantee, the indemnity period is unlimited.
  • Bank accounts: You need your payer’s BIC and IBAN to collect SEPA Direct Debits, not their account number and sort code.

Direct Debit bulk change

A Direct Debit bulk change is the process for changing Direct Debit mandates, for example, to another Direct Debit service provider.

You will need to make a bulk change if have your own Direct Debit Service User Number (SUN) and you are looking to update your:

  • Name
  • Legal status
  • Direct Debit Service User Number (SUN)
  • Reference numbers

However, you need to make sure that payers know there will be a change (although they don’t need to do anything); and your sponsoring bank is notified.

How do I make the bulk change?

As a Bacs Approved Bureau, we have helped hundreds of organisations manage the bulk change process with no disruption to you or your payers.

We can liaise with you and your Sponsoring Bank to ensure a smooth and efficient transfer that follows the Service User’s Guide and Rules to the Direct Debit Scheme.
