RBSG Payment Delays | Direct Debit | Rapidata Services
Rapidata this afternoon received notification from the Royal Bank of Scotland Group (RBSG) via the Bacs Payment Scheme regarding unpaid Direct Debits resulting from the RBS IT failure in June 2015.
In the week commencing 15 June, RBS were too late to be able to return a number of Direct Debit unpaid items for its customers. This means that you will have received the funds for some of these transactions in error, but RBS did not debit the funds from your payers’ accounts.
This impacted Direct Debits with an original processing date of 16 June (due to be posted to payers’ accounts on 17 June), and a proportion of those with an original processing date of 17 June (due to be posted on 18 June).
RBS are treating the unpaid items in two broad categories: (1) Those which would have been returned for lack of funds and (2) ‘Others’, in particular where the payer had cancelled the mandate, or where they held no valid mandate.
1. Lack of Funds: RBS will be debiting these items from your affected payers’ accounts around 7 August. They have given customers notice that this is happening. No action is required by you.
2. ‘Others’ Cancelled or No Valid Mandate: RBS will raise an Indemnity Claim to claim the funds back from you. The majority of the items will be claimed under Indemnity Code 3 or 5. RBS will begin processing the claims from tomorrow, 12 August, and you will see them over the following one-two weeks.
We recommend you monitor your Indemnity Claim reporting which we provide to you daily through our secure ShareFile site. Should you require assistance accessing these reports, or you would like a report of all your possible affected payments, please don’t hesitate to contact our Data Admin Team or your account manager.
