Charity Chat with The Hearts and Heroes Challenge
The Hearts and Heroes Challenge raises money for Poppyscotland and Hearts & Balls. The Challenge looks exhausting but everyone gets a chance to celebrate at the end! They’ve been using Rapidata’s online registration and fundraising system for the event and we’ve asked Leanne Morton to take part in our Charity Chat to find out a bit more:
Tell us a bit about the challenge and how it came about? The Hearts and Heroes Challenge is a team effort in every sense. The event is run jointly and in support of Poppyscotland and Hearts & Ball is in it’s second year and brings the public together with members of the armed forces and rugby community to walk or run 12, 21 or 29 miles (the choice is yours) in teams, along the beautiful Southern Upland Way of the Scottish Borders. At the finish line everyone is rewarded with a professional sports massage and a big party with live band and 3 course meal at the famous Melrose Rugby Ground.
How are you promoting the event online and offline? We have a dedicated event website and have been sending e-newsletters to previous and new participants. We have an active Hearts and Heroes facebook page which is also connected to twitter. We’ve also been advertising using more traditional marketing materials – DVD, leaflets, banners, promotion at rugby events and local media campaigns.
How much are you hoping to raise for Poppyscotland and Hearts & Balls? Last years event raised nearly a quarter of a million and we are looking for it to be bigger and better this year.
Have the registration and online fundraising pages helped improve the user experience? The vast majority of our participants have registered online this year and gone straight into their fundraising efforts. People have been really creative with their personal and team fundraising pages and we have had great feedback about having one log in for everything – registration, updates, fundraising and messages.
Will you be braving the challenge? Some staff are taking part, I did it last year and it’s the most fun with the greatest sense of achievement but also incorporating a brilliant night out too!!
Thanks for talking to us Leanne. There are still places left if you’d like to take part visit the site here
