We DID it!
Well we did it! We walked 15.5 miles in support of the Big Issue Foundation and survived. It was a great evening and despite a slightly wet start, we didn’t feel a drop of rain throughout the night. The blisters have healed, backs, hips and feet are all back to normal and we have a lot of very funny photos to show for our efforts. Most importantly we’ve raised some money for a great cause.
The team from the Big Issue Foundation worked really hard to make sure the route was well marked for all 437 of us. We were hard to miss in our snazzy yellow macks and many a passerby yelled out their support! All the stops along the way were warm, welcoming and had lots of hot coffee on hand to fuel the walkers.
We learned alot of things along the walk…
a) There are no public toilets open in London after midnight.
b) Chocolate brownies and coffee CAN get you very far.
c) Camden is very lively at 2.00am
d) The location of some fascinating pubs in the City
e) Huge swaths of London offer no shelter from the rain for the city’s homeless.
f) Big Issue Vendor, Billie Bickley, NEVER runs out of energy!
To date the Big Issue Night Walkers have collectively raised £65,000 and that amount is increasing every day. If every team meets their £1000 target, The Big Issue will be able to work with 2 vendors for an entire year helping them with their journey off the streets and into a new life.
Team Rapidata’s fundraising isn’t finished yet, so if you’re impressed by our energy and want to help us, please sponsor our team fundraising page.
A BIG thank you goes out to all of our friends, colleagues, partners and clients who have already sponsored us!
